After surviving the frigid winter months in Philadelphia, residents come crawling out of the woodworks to take advantage of outdoors when the seasons change. Philadelphia outdoor options range from 1-block urban parks to expansive green space that travels beyond the city limits.
1. Kelly Drive runs alongside the Schuylkill River setting a perfect backdrop for an afternoon picnic. Bring a blanket and a bottle of champagne to top off the day. On the other side of the winding Kelly Drive is the beginning of Fairmount Park. Spanning over 9,200 acres, the park is filled with trails, playgrounds, waterways, and beautiful gardens.
2. Washington Square Park is a beautifully designed park featuring vibrant gardens overlooking the old world architecture of the homes in the heart of Society Hill. Washington Square is a great gathering space for friends to hangout or to toss a frisbee.
3. Rittenhouse Square has a well-established reputation in Philadelphia of the most posh area to live; whether that reputation is something to be proud of or not depends on the person you ask. Nevertheless, grab a bench seat and watch the never-ending stream of characters walk past.
4. Clark Park is out near University City and is a great weekend hangout. It’s a perfect park to bring a case of Tecate and mingle with the neighbors.
